  • Powerful Copywriting Tips for Online Sales

Written by admin on February 2, 2008 – 5:27 pm

Most people have an extremely short attention span when surfing the web. So here are a couple of tips you need to know when writing a sales copy.

    1. Use SHORT paragraphs & words.

    2. Make your sentences FLOW like a breeze…. ignore good grammar when you have a good reason - start your sentences with And, But, So you see.

    3. Use BUZZ WORDS: profit, secret, easy, save, guarantee, today… and the hottest word of all: YOU!

    4. Use lots of BULLETS - this will help you break long sentences.

    5. Write HEADLINES …. lots of them. Think of you product benefits and those should generally be your headlines.

    6. STAND OUT.  Discover, isolate and dramatize the reasons for doing business with you. What are your competitive advantages? Throw some punches here.

    7. GIVE…. All your readers are in your website to “get” something. They are looking to solve a problem, obtain information, get a discount or whatever. So to succeed, you must learn to give… free information, valuable tips, special deals and freebies.

    8. Include TESTIMONIALS – your story would be a lot more credible if it comes from an independent source.

    9. ASK FOR ACTION.

To make a website look nice, one of our favourite approach is to maintain a simple and minimalist style while using lines, shades and icons to give it some graphic impact.

    Look at Blogger.com for example.

No we did not design this website unfortunately :) It was actually done by Douglas Bowman and his team at StopDesign - notice how graphical icons can be used to give impact to the design?

If you are a local business and currently marketing on the Internet you should be very excited about e-commerce.

Your customers are increasingly turning to the Internet to find businesses like yours.

Last year in the US, it is estimated that more than 70% of households use the Internet as a source when shopping locally.

What is more astounding is that more than 40% of local searches had a buying intent.

With the growth of internet usage and broadband subscribers in Malaysia, I believe we are also riding a similar wave.

The question is – when a prospect searches for your type of business on the Internet will they find YOU? or will they find your competitor?

And if they find you, will you have an Internet marketing system in place that converts them into a profitable customer?

We are often told that 90%+ of all Internet searches are performed in the 3 major search engines, namely Google, Yahoo and MSN.
